Philip’s Mats
Throughout his life Philip collected flowers, pressed them and then made table mats, trays and door panels. Telephone directories were stacked up all over their flat with flowers being pressed. After the necessary ‘pressing time’ Philip would arrange them into wonderful designs before mounting and covering with glass and binding with attractive materials. They were then sold in many shops throughout the capital, Aspreys of London being one of his clients. These works were some of the most talked about items when people wrote and called after Philips death. They continue to be in daily use and are still greatly admired by anyone lucky enough to own a set.
